Building permits for more than 300 accommodation buildings have been granted at Olleronvaara near Rovaniemi. The newest glass igloo resort opens in November.
According to the city, 90 buildings in the area are already finished. In November, a night in the same glass igloo costs €499.
A new tourism area is growing at Olleronvaara, about 10 km from the centre of Rovaniemi. According to the city, almost 30,000 square metres of floor area for accommodation have been made possible there, building permits have been granted for more than 300 accommodation buildings, and 90 buildings are finished.
There is no detailed zoning plan for the area; building is guided by a general plan. The city does not sell the building sites but leases them for up to 30 years, and in September 2025 there were 17 operators active or holding reservations in the area.
Aava Glass Igloos: 13 glass igloo suites with a heated glass roof and a private sauna. The first night that can be booked is 13 November 2026.
ALVA Resort: four cabins of 28 square metres with glass roofs. According to the resort, it opens on 1 November 2026.
SkyView Igloo Resort already operates in the same area, and its booking system lists glass igloo suites and aurora cabins.
Prices vary a lot by season. On 16 October, Aava Glass Igloos’ price list showed the cheapest available night for two adults at €499 on 13 November, €2,099 on 23 December and €799 on 15 January 2027.
On the same day, the cheapest available night at SkyView Igloo Resort on 23 December cost €2,150. Prices change with demand.
According to the draft of Rovaniemi’s tourism programme, the growth of short-term rentals and the concentration of visitors in the peak seasons have increased the impact of tourism on residents’ daily lives. The programme sets out that new tourism areas will be zoned outside the city centre and that tourism pressure will be directed away from the centre.
In August, the city started amending the general plan for Olleronvaara, covering about 281 hectares. Among other things, it will study housing for workers and the area’s transport links.
